Bongani Mountain Lodge
How far do you have to travel to find peace and quiet and connect with the simple life? When last did you cultivate your soul? When it's time to get back to the things that are important - like the tranquillity of nature, the excitement of culture, and the fascination of history - take a trip to Bongani Mountain Lodge. We have all the offerings to revitalize your spirit, and get you ready to face the real 'civilization'.
Bongani Mountain Lodge is situated in the 8000-hectare (19 800-acre) Mthethomusha Game Reserve, bordering the world-famous Kruger National Park in South Africa. Lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo walk ancient paths once used by the San (Bushman) people. Over 250 San rock art paintings, estimated to be 1 500-years-old, are found in the Reserve – the greatest concentration of rock art per square metre on earth.
Bongani is a low-risk malaria destination due to the altitude of the Lodge, which offers an unforgettable mountain safari with breathtaking views of the surrounding African bush. Experienced CC Africa rangers and Swazi trackers lead interpretive game-drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles, and interpretive bush walks. Guests are also welcome to visit the local communities and view ongoing empowerment initiatives, in addition to meeting the local sangoma (medicine man).

Malaria & Animals
Bongani Mountain Lodge is situated in a sub tropical area that contains a variety of mosquitoes that carry different strains of malaria. Although the Lodge is in a low risk area, it is the company’s sole and absolute responsibility to ensure that all guests, tour guides, drivers and the like consult with their doctor, to ensure that all necessary precautions against malaria are timeously taken.
There are no fences around the lodge to prevent animals from wandering around at will. Uniformed security guards monitor animal activity around the lodge; however we request that you exercise caution when walking around. The guards are available to walk you to and from your room in the evenings. |
DISTANCE & TRANSPORTATION
Approximately four hours on excellent roads from Johannesburg. Daily scheduled flights to KMIA (Nelspruit) and 35 minute road transfer available on request. Departure time from the lodge to Nelspruit airport is 2 hours before scheduled flight and Skukuza 3 hours. Flights, car hire and transfers can be arranged through the lodge.
DIRECTIONS
From Johannesburg take the N4 towards Nelspruit, drive straight through Nelspruit towards Malelane/Komatipoort still on the N4. About 30 km outside Nelspruit you will find an area with fruit vendors on the right-hand side. On the left is the 'Matsulu' turn off, take this road. Just after you have turned left, approximately 10 meters, there will be a sand road to your left with a sign for Bongani Mountain Lodge. Sign in at the security gate and drive +- 1 km down to the parking lot and Welcome centre where someone will be there to meet you.
